Uravakonda, December 2:
In a shocking revelation that underscores concerns over police lethargy in legal proceedings, an RTI inquiry has exposed a massive delay of nearly four years by the Uravakonda Police in resubmitting a charge sheet. The details emerged following a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by a local citizen, bringing to light significant administrative negligence.
RTI Application Reveals Administrative Apathy
Responding to an application filed by K. Lakshminarayana of Kottapalli, the Principal Junior Civil Judge Court in Uravakonda disclosed the timeline of events leading to the registration of Preliminary Register Case (P.R.C.) No. 7/2025. The court's official response raises serious questions about the efficiency of the local law enforcement apparatus.
Timeline of Delay:
According to the official records furnished by the court:
Initial Filing: The Uravakonda police first filed the charge sheet on October 1, 2020.
The 3-Year Gap: The court returned the charge sheet with objections just four days later, on October 5, 2020. Astoundingly, the police took 3 years and 3 months to address these objections, finally resubmitting it on January 9, 2024.
Repeated Delays: The pattern of negligence continued.
Returned in January 2024, it was resubmitted after 35 days in February.
Returned again in late February 2024, the police took another 7 months and 5 days to resubmit it in October 2024.
The court officially confirmed a cumulative delay of 3 years, 11 months, and 10 days solely attributable to the Investigating Officer.
Current Status of the Case
Following the prolonged delay, the charge sheet was finally registered as Calendar Case No. 156/2024 in October 2024. Upon the appearance of the accused, it was re-numbered as P.R.C. No. 7/2025. The court confirmed that the case was committed to the Honorable Sessions Court for further trial on November 21, 2025, after the accused appeared before the magistrate in August.
Impact on Justice
Legal experts and civil society members argue that such inordinate delays due to technical negligence deny timely justice to victims and erode public trust in the policing system. This incident serves as a stark example of how bureaucratic hurdles can obstruct the path to justice.
