Key Changes to Press Accreditation Rules: Restricted to Registered District Only

Anantapuram True Times India, December 4:

Significant changes have been made to the Press Accreditation rules. The accreditation will now be limited to a single district. This key modification is part of the relaxation of the 2026 accreditation guidelines.

 * Accreditation restricted to the district where the publication is registered.

 * Abolition of the two-district accreditation system previously practiced under the erstwhile composite districts framework.

Amaravati: The State Government has recently released key modifications to the Press Accreditation rules for the year 2026. These new guidelines, which could potentially impact the freedom and expansion of the press, have been issued recently.

The New Regulations are as follows:

According to the new guidelines, accreditation will henceforth be issued only for the single district where the publication is registered.

 * District Restriction: The publication organization is eligible to apply for and obtain accreditation only in the district where it is registered.

 * Abolition of Composite District Accreditation: The government has completely revoked the system of issuing accreditation for two districts, which was previously in effect under the composite districts framework.

 * Choice for Journalists: Journalists working within the boundaries of the former composite districts must also choose only one district and obtain accreditation in that district. The proposal to issue accreditation for two districts will no longer be in effect.

Officials' Instruction:

It is understood that official information regarding these changes was conveyed to all DPROs (District Public Relations Officers) in a meeting held yesterday. Officials have instructed newspaper editors and reporters to mandatorily take note of these new regulations.

Officials stated that these new changes will bring clarity to the process of journalists obtaining district-wise accreditation.
