Rayadurgam/Sandur : A 58-year-old resident of Karnataka, identified as Bandravappa, allegedly consumed pesticide and died after enduring sustained pressure and harassment reportedly linked to Jana Sena Party in-charge of Rayadurgam constituency, Manjunath Gowd. The incident has triggered significant controversy in both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
According to family sources, financial transactions amounting to ₹40 lakh had taken place between Ragula Siddappa of Karnataka and Manjunath Gowd. Following the dispute over repayment, Manjunath Gowd lodged a complaint at the D. Hirehal Police Station in Andhra Pradesh alleging that Siddappa had cheated him.
Family members claim that the local police — instead of acting impartially — displayed undue bias and aggressively intervened in the matter. Siddappa was allegedly taken into custody and subjected to two days of intense coercion. His tractors and Bolero vehicle were seized, and the harassment reportedly extended to his father, Bandravappa, who was summoned to the police station and pressured regarding the payment.
Under severe stress, the family reportedly managed to pay ₹10 lakh immediately. The remaining ₹30 lakh was allegedly forced upon them as debt, with police compelling them to sign blank documents.
Emotionally shattered and unable to withstand the humiliation and intimidation, Bandravappa consumed pesticide near Timmalapur village in Sandur taluk, Karnataka. He was rushed to Ballari VIMS hospital, where he battled for life for 23 days before succumbing on Sunday afternoon.
“My father was tortured into despair. Those responsible — from Jana Sena leadership to authorities — must be held accountable,” Siddappa demanded. Relatives also questioned whether such policing and political pressure had become common practice in Andhra Pradesh, calling it a “gross abuse of power.”
After completion of formalities, the body was transported to his native village, where a somber atmosphere prevailed.
