Gangavaram, Anantapur District: Patience has run out among the residents of Anantapur district regarding the abysmal state of the roads. The crucial Uravakonda–Kalyandurgam highway has deteriorated into a path of 'knee-deep potholes,' leading travelers and locals to fiercely condemn the negligence of R&B (Roads and Buildings) officials.
Death Traps on a Lifeline Road
The condition of the road near the Gangavaram Petrol Bunk is extremely perilous. Due to continued rains and zero maintenance, the potholes on this heavily trafficked route have deepened to alarming levels.
* Fear of Accidents: Local drivers are living in constant fear. "Since the potholes are filled with water, it’s impossible to gauge their depth. Auto drivers and motorcyclists do not know when they might meet with an accident. Travelling on this road is literally gambling with our lives," lamented one local commuter.
* Affecting Essential Travel: This highway serves as a key connecting route between the Uravakonda and Kalyandurgam constituencies. Even RTC buses and private school buses, carrying students daily, are enduring immense difficulties navigating these craters.
R&B Officials Under Fire for 'Blind Eye' Approach
Despite the severity of the road condition being known to public representatives and officials, the local community's primary accusation is that R&B officials are deliberately ignoring the issue. Locals criticize that the officials have forgotten their duties by allowing the road to remain crater-ridden and failing to conduct necessary repairs.
> "If the R&B officials, who are supposed to provide us with facilities, are asleep, then who should we appeal to? Don't they care about our suffering?" demanded a resident of Gangavaram village.

Expressing strong indignation over the officials' attitude, locals and public representatives are united in their demands:
* Immediate Action: Immediate temporary or permanent repairs must be undertaken for this dangerous road.
* Highway Expansion (99): The crucial road must be urgently included in the '99 Road Expansion' plan to ensure a quality, durable road is constructed on a permanent basis, providing better facility for travellers.
Locals are now calling on the District Police High Officials and other top district authorities to immediately intervene and ensure safe passage for the public
