Old Pattern Thefts Return to Uravakonda: Engineering Workshop Hit, $2.5 Lakh Worth of Material Stolen

Uravakonda

October 27 – The rise in thefts in Uravakonda, Anantapur district, is once again causing alarm as perpetrators revert to old, familiar methods of crime. Recently, a major theft occurred at the KJN Engineering Workshop, located within the Gavimatham premises in the town.

The culprits daringly broke the shutter doors of the workshop to gain entry. Information suggests that a substantial quantity of brass bearings and motors, collectively valued at approximately ₹2.50 Lakh, were stolen in the incident.

Police Investigation at the Crime Scene

Upon being informed of the theft, police immediately arrived at the location. An inspection of the workshop interior and the surroundings of the machinery (lathes, etc.) confirmed that the miscreants broke the shutter to gain access.

 * The police interviewed the workshop owner and locals to gather details.

 * They observed the aftermath, including pump motors and bearing boxes (packets) that were scattered on the floor. A case has been registered, and a formal investigation has been initiated.

Public Anxiety Over Escalating Thefts

The continuous string of thefts in Uravakonda is causing severe anxiety among the residents.

 * Reverting to Old Methods: Locals are concerned that the current criminals are adopting the same pattern of crime—breaking into shops and houses—that was prevalent during the tenure of the former Sub-Inspector, Venkat Swamy.

 * Crimes Fuelled by Vices: There is local speculation that some individuals, addicted to vices like Matka gambling and excessive spending, are committing these atrocities for money.

 * Poor Recovery Rate: The fact that stolen goods from several previous incidents, including gold theft and cash robberies, have never been recovered is raising serious doubts about the effectiveness of the police's operational response.

In light of these events, the District Police High Officials are being urged by the local public to respond immediately, take stringent measures to control crime, and particularly establish strong night patrolling (vigilance) within the town.
