Uravakonda, October 11: Ajini, the District General Secretary of RSYF, expressed concern that the surroundings of the Boys ' Hostel in Uravakonda are unhygienic and unsafe, which severely impacts the safety and health of the students. Open drainage canals, broken cement slabs, overgrown weeds, and stagnant wastewater in the hostel premises have become hazardous.
Key Issues Identified:
Open Drainage Canals: The drainage canals in the hostel premises are open without covers. Waste has accumulated in them, not only emitting foul odors but also becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other insects. Ajini, the RSYF District Secretary, alleged that this could lead to the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria among the students. Broken cement slabs could also cause students to accidentally slip and fall.
Stagnant Wastewater: Stagnant wastewater provides an ideal environment for mosquito breeding. This increases the risk of diseases spreading inside the hostel as well.
Overgrown Weeds: Overgrown weeds and garbage accumulated around the hostel walls and premises. This could become a habitat for dangerous creatures like venomous snakes and scorpions, posing a threat to the safety of the students.
Dilapidated Hostel Building: Cracks and dilapidation are also visible on the walls and windows of the hostel building. Lack of proper maintenance could lead to the weakening of the building.
The unhygienic and unsafe conditions around the hostel pose a severe threat to the health, hygiene, and safety of the students. Ajini, the RSYF District General Secretary, demanded that concerned officials respond immediately, undertake sanitation measures, cover the drainage canals, remove overgrown weeds, and allocate funds for the repair of the hostel building. He warned that if these demands are not met, they would launch a large-scale protest.
