TVK President Vijay Seeks Permission to Visit Karur Stampede Victims

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and popular actor Thalapathy Vijay has expressed his wish to personally visit the victims of the tragic Karur stampede incident. As per reports, Vijay has written an email to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) seeking official permission to meet the injured and the families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate mishap.

The tragic incident took place on 27th September during a TVK political campaign meeting in Karur.    The event, which drew a huge crowd of supporters, turned into chaos when a sudden commotion led to a stampede. In the incident, 41 people lost their lives and more than 60 others were injured. Many of the victims were women and youngsters who had gathered in large numbers to participate in the meeting and catch a glimpse of Vijay, who has recently stepped into active politics through his newly formed party.

Following the tragedy, several questions were raised about the poor crowd control measures and lack of proper safety arrangements at the event. Opposition parties and social activists demanded accountability, stating that the disaster could have been prevented with better planning. The state government has already ordered an inquiry to determine the cause of the incident and identify those responsible.

Vijay, however, has been facing criticism for not meeting the victims or their families in person till now. Several sections of the public and political observers felt that, as the head of the party organising the event, he had a moral duty to directly console those affected by the tragedy. His decision to now seek police permission indicates that he intends to take corrective steps and personally extend his condolences to the grieving families.

Party sources close to Vijay have stated that he wishes to offer words of comfort to the families and also extend financial assistance to the injured and the bereaved. They clarified that Vijay prefers to conduct such visits in a dignified and peaceful manner, avoiding unnecessary political display or publicity.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Police are reviewing his request and are expected to issue a decision soon. Security arrangements are likely to be strengthened in view of the huge public attention Vijay’s visit is expected to draw.

The Karur stampede tragedy has cast a long shadow over the state’s political atmosphere. Vijay’s response and actions in the coming days will be closely watched, as they are likely to influence public opinion about his leadership qualities and his approach to handling sensitive issues in his emerging political journey.
