A tragic incident took place on Tuesday evening near Dammenna Bridge in Undrajavaram mandal, leaving everyone in deep shock. A 17-year-old girl, Kappula Poojitha, an Intermediate second-year student from Morth village, jumped into a canal while returning home from college on the bus.
As per police reports, Poojitha was studying in a private junior college in the Velivennu area. After classes, she boarded the college bus along with her classmates to return home. When the bus reached Dammenna Bridge, she told the driver that she was feeling giddy and wanted to get down for a while. The driver stopped the bus, and the moment she got down, she suddenly jumped into the nearby canal.
The driver and other students shouted for help, and nearby villagers rushed to the spot and started a search operation. However, the water flow in the canal was very strong, and they could not trace her. The Undrajavaram Police and Revenue officials reached the place and took up investigation. Based on a complaint lodged by her mother Subbalakshmi, a case has been registered, said SI Ravi Kumar.
According to family members, Poojitha’s parents separated when she was just two years old. She has been living with her mother in a rented house at her grandmother’s village Morth. Her mother works as a daily wage labourer and has been supporting her education with great difficulty. Poojitha was a bright and well-mannered student who consistently scored good marks in her studies.
Locals and classmates expressed deep sorrow over the incident and said they were shocked that such a promising student took such an extreme step. Police are investigating to find out the reasons behind her tragic decision.
