Tenant Farmers Protest in Uravakonda: Demand for Bank Loans!

Uravakonda, October 27:

A protest (Dharna) was organized by the 'Temple Lands Tenant Farmers Association' at the Union Bank and Police Station premises in the Uravakonda constituency of Anantapur district on Monday, highlighting the issues faced by tenant farmers. They strongly demanded the immediate sanction of bank loans to all tenant farmers.

Key Demands

The tenant farmers articulated their demands as follows:

 * Loans without Landowner's Signature: Banks should sanction loans to all tenant farmers, irrespective of the landowner's signature, in accordance with RBI guidelines.

 * ₹2 Lakh Loan: Every tenant farmer should be provided with a crop loan up to ₹2 lakh.

 * Loans for CCR Card Holders: Crop loans must be provided immediately to all tenant farmers who possess CCR (Crop Cultivator Rights) cards.

Association Leaders' Distress

The leaders expressed their distress, stating that although they were promised crop loans last year, they were not sanctioned under the pretext of the deadline having passed. Speaking on behalf of the association, the tenant farmers' leader said, "Despite the arduous labor put in by the tenant farmers day and night, they are being denied loans. However, banks are readily providing loans to private corporations. We demand that bank loans be immediately sanctioned to all tenant farmers."

The Temple Lands Tenant Farmers Association urged the government to rescue the tenant farmers this year by sanctioning adequate crop loans.

Participants

The protest saw the participation of Pedda Mustur B. Venkateshulu, the leader of the Temple Lands Tenant Farmers Association, Uravakonda Mandal leader Suresh, Seenappa, Rehman, Sunkanna, Dhananjay, Obanna, Nagappa, Ganganna, Surendra, along with several women tenant farmers.
