Tirupati:
A heart transplant surgery was successfully performed on Friday at the Sri Padmavathi Childrens Heart Centre (SPCH) in Tirupati.
Vijaya Krishna (28) from Rajamahendravaram had suffered severe injuries in a road accident and was declared brain-dead while undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital, Guntur. Following this, his family came forward to donate his heart through the Jeevandan organ donation programme.
The heart was allocated to a 14-year-old boy from Satyavedu, who was receiving treatment at SPCH. On the directions of the TTD Executive Officer, an air ambulance was arranged. The heart was transported from Guntur to Vijayawada via a green channel, then flown to Renigunta Airport, and finally brought to SPCH in Tirupati without delay.
Under the supervision of Dr. Srinath Reddy, Director of SPCH, a team of doctors — Dr. Sandeep, Dr. Harsha, and Dr. Madhu — successfully completed the transplant procedure.
With this operation, the number of successful heart transplants at SPCH has reached 21.
