International Day of the Girl Child: "Girls are a matter of pride for the nation" - Deputy Health Education Officer Venugopal

Malapuram, October 11: On the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, a grand program was organized at KGBV School in Malapuram under the directives of the District Medical and Health Officer. Deputy Health Education Officer Venugopal participated as the chief guest in this program and elaborated on the importance of girls.

Venugopal stated that this year's theme for the International Day of the Girl Child is "My Voice, Our Equal Future: Girls, a matter of pride for the nation." He reminded that the United Nations declared this day, celebrated worldwide every year on October 11, to protect the rights of girls, reduce gender inequalities at the grassroots level, and empower girls in fields such as education and health.

Venugopal said that the main objective of this day is to raise awareness about the problems faced by girls (gender discrimination, lack of education, lack of access to health services, child marriage). He mentioned that the United Nations first recognized this day in 2012, and since then, it has served as a special platform to fight for the rights of girls. He opined that it helps in the development of girls and provides a platform for them to showcase their potential.

Venugopal clarified that the goals of this day are to prioritize the rights of girls, recognize their leadership, eliminate discrimination, and provide courage and equal opportunities to girls. He emphasized the need to provide equal opportunities to girls in areas such as education, nutrition, health, protection, and legal rights. He called on everyone to work towards eliminating the discrimination faced by girls in society.

Venugopal expressed his desire for this day to contribute to women's empowerment, the eradication of child marriages, and guiding the future of girls. He urged that through this International Day of the Girl Child, efforts should be made to provide equal rights and opportunities to girls worldwide and to ensure gender equality.

Along with Deputy Health Education Officer Venugopal, Supervisor Amrutalata, Health Assistant Noor Mohammed, MLHP Sharada, ANM Hemalata, Jyothi Asha, and others participated in the program.
