Uravakonda : Serious allegations have surfaced against Sri Krishna Reddy, a temporary employee working at the Uravakonda Court. A local citizen, Meenuga Madhu Babu, has filed a complaint with the District Collector and the District Housing Officer, alleging that Reddy illegally acquired a house plot intended for the poor under the Jagananna Colony scheme in his wife's name and subsequently constructed a massive building on it. The complainant asserts that this act constitutes a violation of the Benami Transactions Act and the Government Employees' Conduct Rules.
According to the details provided by Meenuga Madhu Babu in his complaint, Sri Krishna Reddy, a temporary court employee in Uravakonda, obtained a house plot in the Jagananna Colony in his wife's name and built a permanent dwelling on it. Photographs of the house were also attached to the complaint.
Key Points of the Complaint: Misuse of Jagananna Colony Scheme: The Jagananna Colony scheme is designed to facilitate house construction for the poor and eligible beneficiaries. Government employees with stable income are generally not eligible for this scheme.
Benami Transaction: The complaint alleges that Krishna Reddy misused his official position and acquired the plot and undertook construction through illegal means (a Benami transaction) in his wife's name. Madhu Babu emphasized that this is a clear violation of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act of 1988 and its 2016 amendments.
Violation of Government Rules: The Conduct Rules explicitly state that government employees must not acquire assets illegally or use their position for personal gain. These rules are applicable even to temporary employees.
Injustice to Genuine Beneficiaries: The complainant expressed distress that such illegal allocations trample the rights of the genuinely poor and undermine the objective of the government's welfare scheme.
