Shameless System: Revenue VROs Exposed in Widespread Extortion

"No Signature Without Bribe... I Need My Share First": Narpala VRO Demands ₹38,000 for Land Mutation

Anantapur, Narpala Mandal: Despite the government's rhetoric about transparent and corruption-free governance, ground realities prove otherwise. An appalling incident from Dugumarri village in Narpala Mandal, Anantapur district, has exposed how Revenue officials are brazenly looting ordinary citizens and farmers. The leak of an audio clip, in which a Village Revenue Officer (VRO) openly demanded a bribe of ₹38,000 for land mutation, has sent shockwaves across the district.

The Arrogance of Corruption:

The audio clearly documents the appalling arrogance of VRO Venkoba Rao Swamy. When the farmer, seeking mutation for his own land, approached the VRO, the official demanded, "You must pay ₹38,000 if you want the signature." Furthermore, when the farmer questioned the MRO's (Mandal Revenue Officer's) involvement, the VRO arrogantly dismissed him, stating, "You deal with the MRO yourself... my share must be given to me." This cavalier response lays bare the dire state of the Revenue administration.

Not Public Service, But Extortion: This is a Bribe-Driven Regime!

While the government promises that schemes and services will reach every doorstep, farmers are being bled dry with demands for lakhs of rupees just to obtain a signature on their own property documents. VRO Venkoba Rao Swamy’s boldness and attitude suggest this extortion is not an isolated act by a low-level official, but rather a practice enabled, or at least ignored, by the entire system.

The People Ask: Where is the Authority?

The public is incensed that while the administrative machinery often turns a blind eye to genuine rowdies and criminals, it acts with merciless rigidity against ordinary citizens. There is widespread confusion as to why officials are adopting such a lenient stance toward these corrupt officers.

Demand for Strict Action:

Citizens are demanding that the District Collector and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) immediately respond to the viral audio. They insist that VRO Venkoba Rao Swamy must be immediately suspended, and criminal cases registered. The public's anger is so severe that they are demanding that the official not just be suspended, but that his head be shaved and he be paraded with a plaque reading "This is a corrupt official," to send a severe message to others contemplating such corruption.

This incident serves as a stark warning: unless a complete and thorough investigation is launched to fix the deep-rooted corruption from the ground level to the top, the government’s lofty goals will remain nothing more than ink on paper.
