Vajrakarur, True Times India, December 9: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Farmers Committee has demanded that the state government immediately provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Red Gram (Kandi), Maize, Paddy (Vairi), and other crops, and establish Procurement Centres at the mandal level for this purpose. YSRCP leaders submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar of Vajrakarur to this effect.
The Committee expressed concern that the Coalition Government has been neglecting the farmers since coming to power 18 months ago, leaving the situation of farmers in the state deplorable. They criticized that despite the farmer being the backbone of the country, the Central and State Governments are not even providing the minimum support price.
Key Demands Made to the Government
The YSRCP Farmers Committee presented the following main demands to the government:
* Price Stabilisation Fund: The government must allocate ₹5,000 crore in the budget for the Price Stabilisation Fund for the crops grown by farmers.
* Crop Procurement: The government must announce the MSP for crops like Banana, Onion, Maize, Red Gram, Paddy, Chili, Bengal Gram (Senaga), and Jowar (Jonna), establish procurement centers in mandal headquarters, and purchase the farmers' produce directly.
* Premium Payment: The government must bear the entire crop insurance premium.
* Compensation at the Field Level: If a farmer dies due to an accident while working in the field, the government must provide ₹20 lakh compensation to the family.
* Ex-gratia for Suicides: If a farmer commits suicide due to crop failure and lack of MSP, the government must announce an Ex-gratia of ₹20 lakh to the family.
* Release of Dues: The government must immediately sanction Input Subsidy, Insurance, and Crop Loss Compensation to the farmers.
* Annadata Sukheebhava: The election promise of ₹20,000 under 'Annadata Sukheebhava' must be released in a single installment.
* Procurement Centres: Procurement Centres must be immediately established in all mandal headquarters.
