BJP's Key Decisions on Women Empowerment: Policy Review on the occasion of Saubhagya Sriram Taking Charge

Anantapur, True Times India 5: Smt. Saubhagya Sriram recently took charge as the District BJP Mahila Morcha President. On this occasion, the Central Government of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focusing particularly on the key decisions and schemes undertaken for women's empowerment. The BJP emphasized that its focus has shifted from "Women's Development" to "Women-led Development."

Political and Legal Milestones

With the aim of increasing women's political representation, the Government approved the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, reserving 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. This is considered a milestone in political empowerment. Furthermore, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-G), ownership of houses in rural areas is mandatorily allocated in the name of the female family member, thereby granting them property ownership rights.

Health, Education, and Safety

The Government is implementing several schemes for the welfare of women and girls:

 * The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme aims to address the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and promote the education of the girl child.

 * Through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), free LPG connections are provided to women below the poverty line (BPL), significantly reducing health problems caused by traditional cooking smoke.

 * The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) offers a high-interest savings scheme to ensure financial security for girls' education and marriage.

 * Safety Measures: High priority has been given to safety through the establishment of One-Stop Centres (Sakhi Kendras), which provide police, medical, legal aid, counselling, and temporary shelter to women affected by violence, and the Women Helpline (181) for 24-hour emergency assistance.

Economic Independence and Employment Generation

With the objective of encouraging women entrepreneurs, collateral-free loans are being provided for small businesses under the Mudra Yojana (PMMY).

As part of economic self-reliance, the Lakhpati Didi Scheme was introduced to empower 2 crore women working in Self-Help Groups (SHG) to accumulate capital exceeding ₹1 lakh. Similarly, the Drone Didi Scheme, which trains 15,000 SHG women workers as drone pilots, has provided new livelihood opportunities for women in agriculture and other sectors.

District BJP Mahila Morcha President, Daggupati Saubhagya Sriram, stated that all these measures reflect the Central Government's commitment to strengthening women's power.
