Anantapur
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Anantapur District Chapter, has formally appealed to the Endowments Department for the urgent and comprehensive modernization and development of the Pennahobilam Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, located in the Uravakonda Mandal of Anantapur district.
The VHP highlighted that despite the temple's status as a magnificent, historic, and legendary pilgrimage center operating under the government's Endowments Department, it remains underdeveloped and disorganized. The organization asserts that the temple, which generates revenue from income sources, endowments, and devotee donations, has fallen into a deplorable condition due to the negligence and lack of accountability among officials.
Key Demands for Temple Development
The letter, signed by District President Sri Talamki Venkata Ratnamayya, outlines 19 specific measures aimed at enhancing devotee convenience, attracting tourism, and restoring the temple's grandeur.
Reinstatement of Governing Body: The VHP calls for the immediate restoration of the Temple Governing Body (Palaka Mandali), citing that the lack of one has led to poor maintenance.
Modernizing Counters: Modernizing the Darshan (sightseeing) and Prasadam (offering) counters with modern technology to prevent corruption.
Infrastructure Improvement: Prioritizing electricity, toilets, water facilities, and cleanliness in the accommodation rooms. The dilapidated Satrams (choultries) built by devotees need reconstruction.
Public Amenities: Establishing a Tulabharam (ritual weighing) facility, which is connected to devotees' sentiments. Creating parks and benches near the Tungabhadra water flow and check dams for a pleasant atmosphere, and renovating the two main roads.
Renovation and Beautification: Developing the Nagulakatta near the water flow. Building a new, devotional chariot for the Ratha Utsavam (Chariot Festival). Modernizing the temple tanks (Konerus) and the sacred water spring by constructing a proper canal.
Spiritual and Historical Promotion: Installing boards displaying Hindu Dharma messages on the walls, and boards throughout the area to narrate the temple's history. Modernizing the Varahavadha Sthalam.
Tourism and Revenue: Creating ample parking facilities for vehicles. Focusing on the potential to establish deer and peacock parks. Constructing a spacious road around the Pennahobilam hill and building rooms for commercial complexes to generate revenue for the temple.
Connectivity and Management: Ensuring a better road from Amidhyala village, which the deity uses for processions. Utilizing revenue from temple endowments appropriately.
External Support and Programs: Seeking cooperation from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to sanction sufficient funds for development works. Organizing frequent spiritual programs through the TTD at Pennahobilam.
* Toilet Management: Handing over toilet maintenance to private parties for proper implementation.
Appeal for Devotee Involvement
The VHP also urged officials to involve devotees in the development process by promoting the temple's history and development programs through electronic media and newspapers. Additionally, they requested better services in the Annadanam (free meal) programs with devotee participation. The claim that Senior BJP leader Daggupati Soubhagya, Sri Ram made the statement is noted. However, the document's contents are a formal appeal from the VHP District President, Sri Talamki Venkata Ratnamayya.
