Kalyandurg (Anantapur District): The 538th birth anniversary celebrations of the great saint, social reformer, and composer, Sri Bhakta Kanakadasa, were grandly organized in Kalyandurg, Anantapur district, as a State Festival.
State Minister for IT and Human Resources Development, Sri Nara Lokesh, attended the event as the Chief Guest and officially unveiled a 9-foot bronze statue of Sri Kanakadasa. Thousands of people and several prominent leaders from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) participated in the festival.
Program Highlights:
* Statue Unveiling: Minister Nara Lokesh, along with BC Welfare Minister Smt. S. Savitha, local MLAs, MPs, and other senior TDP leaders, unveiled the garlanded bronze statue in a traditional manner.
* Massive Crowd: Over ten thousand people attended the event to pay tribute to the saint and participate in the State-level celebrations. The crowd, wearing party flags and yellow caps, listened attentively to the leaders' speeches.
* Tribute to a Social Reformer: Speaking on the occasion, the leaders paid rich tributes to Sri Kanakadasa, lauding his role as a revolutionary social philosopher who used his devotional compositions (keertanalu) to fight against social inequalities and caste discrimination.
* Government's Commitment: Minister S. Savitha and other leaders reaffirmed the government's commitment to honoring social reformers. They announced that Kanakadasa Jayanti would be officially celebrated as a State Festival across all districts, recognizing the saint's immense contributions to social justice.
* Political Engagement: Sri Nara Lokesh greeted the enthusiastic crowd, reiterating the government's dedication to the welfare and development of the Backward Classes (BCs), whose community highly reveres the saint.
