Kurnool, October 15 (Principal District Court Premises): Ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to Kurnool tomorrow (October 16, 2025), local lawyers staged a protest today (October 15) demanding the establishment of the High Court in the city.
Lawyers' Key Demands:
Advocates gathered in front of the Kurnool Principal District Court under the banner of the 'Kurnool High Court Sadhana Samithi' (Kurnool High Court Achievement Committee) to voice their primary demands:
As per the November 16, 1937 Sri Bagh Pact, only the Principal High Court should be established in Kurnool, the heart of the Rayalaseema region.
They demanded that the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers sanction and allocate ₹800 crores immediately for the establishment of this High Court before concluding their visit.
Appeal to Political Leaders:
The lawyers, participating in the protest demonstration, appealed to the political leadership to fulfil the regional aspiration. They reiterated that, under the historic Sri Bagh Pact, the principle was to locate the capital in one region and the High Court in another, making Kurnool the rightful place for the High Court. They urged the Central and State governments to take immediate steps to ensure Kurnool gets the High Court.
They particularly pressed for the government to consider this issue during the Prime Minister's visit and announce the necessary funds for the High Court's establishment.
As the issue of the Judicial Capital has been a long-standing point of discussion, there is keen interest in what the government might announce regarding the High Court demand during the Prime Minister's visit tomorrow (October 16).
