Uravakonda, October 26: The administration of government offices and prominent temples in the Uravakonda constituency of Anantapuram district has collapsed into chaos. Local residents are struggling immensely due to a severe shortage of key officials, rampant in-charge administrations, and alleged irresponsible behavior by personnel. With the constituency being represented by the State Finance Minister, locals are challenging the situation, asking, "Is this good governance?"
🚓 Revenue and Police Departments in Disarray
The official machinery in Uravakonda has been completely derailed, with crucial departments operating under severe limitations.
Police Department: The post of Rural Circle Inspector (CI) has been vacant for approximately three months. Furthermore, the Rural Police Station is currently operating without a Sub-Inspector. This in-charge system is leading to delayed public services, making it difficult for the police to control rising issues like thefts, gambling, and illegal liquor outlets (belt shops) proliferating across villages.
Revenue Office: The Uravakonda Tahsildar's office is reportedly a hotbed of corruption. The Tahsildar, who is holding additional charge of Kuderu, is allegedly performing duties only sporadically. Locals accuse the official of operating under the guise of 'camps' or 'VIP visits' (Chief Minister/Prime Minister's tours), drawing a full salary while providing poor and erratic services.
MPDO and Panchayat: The MPDO is frequently absent, either on leave or 'touring' under the pretext of 'camps,' causing significant delays in developmental works. Additionally, the Sanitary Post in the major Gram Panchayat remains vacant, with no steps taken for recruitment.
🏛️ Religious Administration in Turmoil
The governance of renowned spiritual centres is also deeply affected by the administrative vacuum.
Gavi Matham: At the famous spiritual centre, the post of Assistant Commissioner (AC) has been vacant for over six months following a transfer. An official with inadequate qualifications from a Group Temple is currently running the affairs as Manager.
Pennahobilam Temple: Following allegations, the Executive Officer (EO) of the Pennahobilam Temple, Ramesh Babu, is on long-term leave. The post has not been filled, and Anantapuram Endowments AC Thirumal Reddy is acting as in-charge. This instability is a major hurdle to securing funds and permissions for the construction of a new temple chariot, eagerly awaited by devotees.
🫂 Public Distress Over Minister's Absence
Adding to the administrative woes, the Finance Minister, Payyavula Keshav, and his brother are reportedly unavailable locally. This forces residents to travel to Anantapuram and approach their representatives through small-time political workers just to voice their grievances, adding to their financial and logistical burden.
Locals allege that officials are merely feigning humility and competence in front of the elected representatives, while conducting business irresponsibly behind their backs.
The beneficiaries and residents of Uravakonda are appealing to the Minister to immediately acknowledge the difficulties caused by this in-charge administration and take prompt action to ensure proper governance is established.
