Political tensions flared up in Narsipatnam of Anakapalli district ahead of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit. Just before his scheduled tour, flex banners featuring the late Dr. Sudhakar appeared at major junctions across the town, triggering a heated discussion among locals.
The posters carried a sharp message: “Those who killed for asking masks are now talking about medical colleges? People… beware!” The provocative words and Dr. Sudhakar’s image quickly caught public attention.
According to sources, Jagan is scheduled to visit the under-construction medical college at Makavarapalem in the Narsipatnam constituency. In anticipation of his visit, several Dalit organizations reportedly installed the banners across the region.
Dr. Sudhakar, an anesthesiologist from Visakhapatnam, came into the spotlight during the COVID-19 pandemic when he questioned the lack of PPE kits in government hospitals. Following his remarks, he was manhandled by police on the streets and later admitted to a mental hospital — incidents that sparked national outrage at the time. Dalit groups have long alleged that the humiliation he faced under the then YSRCP government pushed him to take his own life.
Now, as Jagan prepares to visit the area, Dalit organizations have once again invoked Dr. Sudhakar’s memory through protest banners, reviving the controversy. The renewed agitation has become a major talking point in local political circles, with the opposition accusing the ruling party of insensitivity and the police keeping a close watch to prevent any law and order issues.
