Uravakonda, January 23: Uravakonda farmers are expressing deep anguish, stating that after working hard year-round to grow their crop, they are facing political discrimination when they come to sell it. Victims allege that massive irregularities are taking place in the red gram (kandulu) procurement process at the town's market yard, and purchases are being made solely on a political basis.
Staff Under Ruling Party Control?
Farmers are expressing severe outrage over the behavior of the market yard staff. They lament that the staff is openly stating that they will procure red gram only if a local leader belonging to the ruling party gives permission, otherwise they won't. They are questioning the officials' style of functioning, asking, "Is their word the gospel truth? Is their command the law?"
Political Branding of Farmers!
The victims state that dividing farmers along party lines is incorrect. Farmers were reduced to tears saying, "They are branding us as YCP (YSRCP) sympathizers and are obstructing the purchase of our crop. If they had announced beforehand that they would only buy red gram from farmers belonging to the Telugu Desam (TDP) party, we wouldn't have come here and faced these troubles, would we?"
Key Demands:
Impartial Grading: Procurement must be done based solely on crop quality (grading); political color should not be applied to it.
Officials' Conduct: Agricultural officials and staff must stop working under the control of ruling party leaders.
Inquiry: Farmer association leaders demand that district high officials immediately respond to these irregularities happening at the market yard and initiate an inquiry.
Locals are urging the official machinery, which is supposed to stand by the farmers (Annadatas), to work beyond politics and ensure justice for the farmers.
