Special Drive Initiated Following Kurnool Accident; 289 Cases Registered, 18 Buses Seized
In light of the tragic bus accident near Chinna Tekuru in Kurnool district, the State Transport Department has become vigilant and taken stringent action against private travel operators. Following the directions of the Transport Commissioner, officials conducted a special, widespread drive across all regions of the state and levied heavy fines on vehicles violating regulations.
₹7.08 Lakh Fine and 289 Cases
A total of 289 cases were registered against private travel buses for violation of norms.
18 private travel buses operating in violation of regulations were seized.
Significant fines were imposed on travel buses lacking fire extinguishers, resulting in a total collection of ₹7.08 Lakh in penalties.
District-wise Case Registration
Areas where the highest number of cases were registered during this special inspection:
Eluru: Highest number with 55 cases registered, 3 buses seized.
East Godavari (E.G.) District: 17 cases registered, 4 buses seized.
Konaseema District: 27 cases registered.
Chittoor District: 22 cases registered.
Kurnool District: 12 cases registered.
Visakhapatnam: 7 cases registered.
Nandyal: 4 cases registered.
Key Violations Noted
The primary violations observed in the registered cases are:
* Buses without Fire Extinguishers: 103
* Buses without Passenger List: 34
* Buses without Emergency Exit: 13
* Buses without proper documentation/certificates: 8
* Other violations: 127
Transport Department officials stated that this special drive will continue daily keeping the safety of passengers in mind.
