Sexual Harassment Case at TCS Nashik Campus: Seven Employees Suspended, Arrested

A sexual harassment case at the Nashik campus of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Maharashtra has sparked nationwide attention. Following serious allegations including sexual harassment, fraud, and religious coercion, the company has suspended seven employees, who have also been arrested by the police.

The case began with a complaint filed by a female employee, who accused a colleague of deceiving her under the pretext of marriage. During the course of the investigation, several other women came forward with similar allegations. In total, seven additional women reported experiencing harassment, making the case more serious and widespread.

Among those accused are HR manager Asif Ansari, along with Shafi Shaikh, Shahrukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar, and Danish Shaikh. According to the complaints, the alleged incidents took place between February 2022 and 2026. The victims reported inappropriate touching, obscene comments, body shaming, and repeated harassment. Some also alleged being pressured to consume non-vegetarian food and, in certain cases, being coerced into following specific religious practices.

The case has also raised concerns about the company’s internal grievance mechanisms. Victims claimed that they had previously reported the incidents to the HR department, but no proper action was taken at the time, leading to criticism over institutional accountability.

Taking the matter seriously, Nashik police conducted an undercover operation. Seven महिला police officers entered the campus in disguise, leading to one accused being caught red-handed. Subsequently, action was taken against the others. All seven accused have been arrested; some are in police custody while others have been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities are also reviewing over 40 CCTV footage clips as part of the investigation.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case further. So far, a total of nine FIRs have been registered. Officials indicate that more details may emerge as the investigation progresses.

Responding to the incident, Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran described it as “deeply concerning.” He reiterated that the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward workplace harassment. TCS has also initiated an internal inquiry led by senior executive Aarthi Subramanian.

Meanwhile, the IT employees’ union NITES has written to the Union Labour Ministry, demanding a comprehensive audit of sexual harassment prevention mechanisms across IT companies in India.

This case has once again brought the spotlight on employee safety, women’s protection, and corporate accountability in the IT sector. More crucial developments are expected as the investigation continues.
