Kuwait Weapons Amnesty Ends; Thousands of Firearms and Ammunition Surrendered

Kuwait City, April 9: The weapons amnesty initiative launched by Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) to curb illegal arms possession has concluded successfully, drawing an overwhelming response from the public.

The special drive, which was conducted from March 24 to April 8, allowed individuals to voluntarily surrender unlicensed weapons without facing legal consequences. Officials stated that the initiative received significant cooperation from residents across the country.

According to official data, a total of 2,818 firearms and 284,860 rounds of ammunition were handed over during the amnesty period, reflecting the scale of illegal arms previously in circulation.

Authorities emphasized that the primary objective of the campaign was to strengthen public safety and enhance national security. The no-penalty provision during the amnesty period helped build public trust and encouraged voluntary compliance.

With the deadline now over, the government has issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found in possession of illegal weapons. Officials made it clear that no leniency will be shown moving forward.

The Ministry also expressed gratitude to citizens and residents who cooperated with the initiative, noting that such measures are vital for maintaining law and order in the country.
