Iran Warns US Over ‘Provocative Actions’ in Call with Russia’s Lavrov Amid Ceasefire Tensions

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that “provocative” actions by the United States could lead to “dangerous consequences” for regional and global peace, according to CNN.

The warning came during a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday, following recent ceasefire developments and Iran-US talks held in Islamabad earlier this month.

According to Iran’s foreign ministry, Araghchi raised concerns over American military manoeuvres in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, warning that such actions could destabilise global security.

The discussion also focused on the fragile ceasefire and its wider implications for the Middle East. Russia’s foreign ministry confirmed that Lavrov welcomed the two-week ceasefire and suggested it should be extended to Lebanon. He reiterated Moscow’s readiness to support diplomatic efforts and criticised what he termed “unprovoked American-Israeli aggression against Iran.'

In an official statement, Russia emphasised the need to prevent renewed armed conflict and reaffirmed its commitment to diplomatic solutions.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the United States Navy has deployed at least 15 vessels in the region, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and multiple destroyers. These forces could potentially be used to enforce a maritime blockade of Iranian ports, although US officials have not confirmed any such plans.

The deployments are believed to be spread across the United States Central Command area, making their exact operational role unclear.

At the same time, Washington is considering another round of direct talks with Iranian officials before the ceasefire expires. While no final decision has been made, discussions on possible dates and venues are ongoing, depending on progress in negotiations.

The earlier talks in Islamabad on April 11 involved US officials and mediators from Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Oman and other regional players, highlighting the complexity of efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.

As the ceasefire holds for now, the situation remains highly fluid. Iran has cautioned against further US actions, Russia has pushed for de-escalation, and the United States continues to weigh both military and diplomatic options. The coming days are expected to be crucial in determining whether stability can be maintained or tensions escalate once again.
