IAS Officer Requests Lower-Level Job After Being Left Without Work

Uttar Pradesh: In an unusual and surprising development, an IAS officer has requested a lower-level government post after being left without work. Rinku Singh, serving as Joint Magistrate in Shahjahanpur, reportedly faced multiple threats and attacks due to his strict approach in office. Despite several attempts on his life, he remained firm in his duties.

However, the officer was eventually transferred to a less significant post and left without responsibilities. Although continuing to receive his salary, he had no official work assigned. Frustrated by the situation, Singh approached the authorities, requesting a position at least equivalent to a social welfare officer — the post he held before becoming an IAS officer.

Even the simplest request for a lower-level clerical or peon-type government post remains unanswered, highlighting administrative inaction. The officer reportedly stated, “With the IAS designation, I cannot get the work I want, so I am asking for a post I can actually do.”

This case has raised questions about bureaucratic postings and the challenges officers face when they become entangled in administrative politics, leaving them effectively sidelined.
