₹67.18 Crore Allocated to Ensure Water Security for Farmers
Amaravati/Anantapur: Under the ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ scheme implemented by the Central Government led by Narendra Modi, steps have been initiated to restore 129 tanks across Andhra Pradesh. A total of ₹67.18 crore has been allocated for this initiative, aimed at ensuring reliable irrigation support for farmers.
The restoration of tanks is expected to significantly improve water storage capacity in rural areas. By conserving rainwater effectively, the project will help recharge groundwater levels and reduce water scarcity, especially in drought-prone regions like Rayalaseema.
Speaking on the initiative, Daggupati Saubhagya, District Co-Convener of “Mana Ooru–Mana Jenda” and Anantapur District Mahila Morcha President, stated that the scheme would bring much-needed relief to farmers. She highlighted that regions facing recurring drought conditions would particularly benefit from the restoration of traditional water bodies.
She further noted that improved irrigation facilities would enhance agricultural productivity and help increase farmers’ income. The availability of sufficient water resources is expected to stabilize farming activities and reduce dependency on unpredictable rainfall.
Experts believe that along with tank restoration, adopting modern water management practices can further minimize water wastage and ensure efficient utilization. The initiative is also expected to strengthen the rural economy by supporting agriculture-based livelihoods.
Overall, the ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ scheme is seen as a crucial step toward sustainable water management and agricultural development in Andhra Pradesh, providing long-term benefits to farmers across the state.
