Student and Youth Organizations Protest Over Unemployment in Anantapur

United student and youth organizations meet the Joint Collector over unemployment issues

 Memorandum Submitted to Joint Collector

Anantapur, March 30: Student and youth organizations once again raised their voice against the growing unemployment problem in the state. Under a joint platform, they submitted a memorandum to the Joint Collector demanding filling of vacant government posts, release of a mega job calendar, and payment of unemployment allowance.

Leaders of AIYF, AISF, SFI, PDSU, NSUI, and YSRSU expressed concern that the unemployment crisis in the state is worsening day by day. They stated that lakhs of educated youth, despite completing higher education, are unable to find suitable employment opportunities, forcing them to migrate as laborers to other states and Gulf countries.

The leaders criticized the government for failing to fulfill the promises made during elections regarding unemployment. They pointed out that despite thousands of government posts lying vacant, there has been continued negligence in filling them. They warned that this situation poses a serious threat to the future of the state.

In this context, the united student and youth organizations submitted a memorandum urging the authorities to address their demands immediately. They appealed to the government to respond promptly and ensure justice for unemployed youth.

In the memorandum, they primarily demanded the filling of around 99,000 vacant government posts and the immediate release of a comprehensive mega job calendar. They also demanded filling 19,000 vacancies in the police department and increasing the upper age limit to 35 years, along with raising the age limit for all government jobs.

They further demanded payment of ₹3,000 monthly unemployment allowance with arrears to eligible candidates, and immediate filling of vacancies in departments such as electricity, endowments, agriculture, excise, women and child welfare, and forest departments. They suggested paying a minimum honorarium of ₹10,000 to volunteers and reinstating them into service.

The organizations also demanded halting the privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and filling vacancies in the RTC to protect the institution. They called for providing free study circles and study material to poor unemployed youth, along with training and financial assistance to promote self-employment.

They also urged the government to provide alternative employment opportunities to those who were recently removed from their jobs to safeguard their livelihood.

Leaders including AIYF district president Kotresh, AISF district secretary Kulayi Swamy, PDSU district secretary Veerendra, NSUI district president Vinod, YSRSU president Chandrasekhar Yadav, SFI city president Vamsi, and several others participated in the program.
